Genetic kits is a result of the fast emergence of personalized medicine. Rather than one size fits all medicine, the effectiveness of medical treatments is greatly enhanced when it is customized to the genetic particulars of the patient. To be able to prescribe medications which will be most effective for a particular genetic makeup is huge!

As a quick background, genetic testing allows the genetic diagnosis of vulnerabilities to inherited diseases. In addition to studying chromosomes to the level of individual genes, genetic testing in a broader sense includes biochemical tests for the possible presence of genetic diseases through identifying changes in chromosomes, genes, or proteins. The results of a genetic test can confirm or rule out a suspected genetic condition or help determine a person’s chance of developing or passing on a genetic disorder. Several hundred genetic tests are currently in use, and more are being developed all the time.

23andMe is a California company that sells genetic kits. 23andMe currently has four categories that it sells online. Health and Traits, Ancestry, Sharing and Community, and Research. The ancestor edition costs $399 and the health edition costs $429. The product previously cost $399 for everything.
