You’ll Be Sleeping with the HID Kit Light After Viewing These New European Horror Movies

A list of a few groundbreaking and exciting new European horror movies that show that American directors have some competition when it comes to terror and frights. You’ll have to sleep with the hid kit light on after viewing these films.

“Eden Lake”

The plot of “Eden Lake” isn’t anything groundbreaking: a couple set out for a romantic weekend at an idyllic and remote lake that the boyfriend grew up near. Once there they are hassled by a group of young kids who insult the couple and pop the tire on the couple’s jeep. Things only continue to escalate when the boyfriend confronts the kids again in the woods. While it may not be the most original idea, it is played out with the utmost realism and the British setting gives it a unique spin, with the acting by Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly will give you chills.

“Calvaire”

Influenced by the middle-of-nowhere horror of “Deliverance” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” this French horror film finds a traveling entertainer the prey of an eccentric inn owner. A slow burning horror film with some extremely violent moments it is not for the squeamish as the horror and brutality often seems like it is random and uncalled for. For fans of extreme terror and films like “Straw Dogs” or “The Hills Have Eyes,” “Calvaire” marks a turning point for European horror.

“Isolation”

European fears of mad cow disease and genetic modification fuel this Irish horror film from newcomer Billy O’Brien. A cattle farmer in the remote Irish countryside is convinced to take part in a genetic experiment on his cows which leads to horrific results that threaten not only his livelihood but his life. The film is an obvious warning about dangerous road the world is going down with experimental modification drugs and “Frankenstein Fruit” that is often genetically created for profit and greed.
