Has anyone used this. It is a home kit for DNA testing? You send it to a lab and they send you the DNA results. I’m just wondering how accurate these type of tests and in particular this company is.
Thank you.

Never used it but its like 99.6% accurate

Nancy asks…
I became pregnant 3 months after what I thought was the man of my dreams and I started seeing each other. At 9 weeks pregnant, after reassuring me and helping me be ok with it, he (very unexpectedly) decided he needed a break. During my pregnancy he married the other woman he had been sleeping with. She is now pregnant as well. Our son is 12 weeks old. DNA testing has proven to him that it is his son. He says he can’t wait to hold him but won’t come until he tells his wife because he lied to her about it. It has been 2 weeks since he saw on paper that it is his son yet he still has not told her or seen his son. Our son is 12 weeks old and his father has seen him once and that’s when we went for DNA testing and he didn’t even hold him. I’m so angry but so hurt and confused too. I don’t get a parent, mommy or daddy, not loving their child and spending every moment they can with them. Do I play nice and continue to send him pictures trying to get him to see what he is missing or just accept my son might just be better off with out him in his life? I put everything in this person. We are both Italian and family means everything to our kind. I am so lost. Everything I was ever told by my ancestors has been proven wrong by this man. I just don’t know what I would ever do with out my daddy and I can’t do it all. My son needs a good male role model, his father…and I don’t know how to get him to see what all he misses everyday. I am 31 and he just turned 27 in march. I also have a 11 yr old daughter. This is his first child and a son at that. This is a big honor in an Italian family. It’s someone to carry on his name. Yet I went from 9 weeks pregnant to our son being 4 weeks old without any contact with him. I gave birth to my son with just me and the medical staff in the room. How do I make him see what he is missing? I would make the impossible happen for my children and my heart does not get a parent that would not. Do I continue to beg him or keep my son away from him? Advice please…:( heartbroken and confused.

Let him go. He is obviously not the kind of guy that you want fathering/influencing your son. But, I would definitely file for child support!

I thought I read something about this, but have only found DNA research as it relates to medical science. Anyone know of this or where to obtain this testing?

Hey The Flower,
You can do Genealogical DNA testing to determine some of your ancestral history, not precisely who. You can tie to another project, you can tie to a specific individual (distant cousin), and they have both paternal and maternal tests. The paternal test is more prolific, and there are mostly projects for that. Here are the sites for Family Tree, National Geographic, and many others. Several of these will test you once, and share the data. There are several levels of tests too! The higher the level, the more precise the results can get.

im curious, because i took one and the results were that he wasn’t my biological father, but it also had high possibilities, because a lot of the things we were a strong match on…
should i take a blood test? would that be more accurate? or should i just trust the results?

My name is Kate and I work for Identigene DNA testing center. Paternity testing is very accurate. If you collect from blood or buccal swab (cheek swab) your DNA is the same. With our testing we always double check results to verify information is correct. When it comes to paternity testing with negative results, you may share some markers in common. That is not unusual. Many non-related people will have markers in common, it depends on how common that specific number on the marker is in the population. This does not indicate a relationship. Home paternity tests are not admissible in court because we can not verify who’s sample we actually have. Legal paternity tests are conducted differently. With legal DNA testing the collection is done by a dis-interested thrid party. The testing process is the same. If you are unsure about your results please feel free to contact Identigene and we are always happy to go over any questions you have.

Ok I purchased a paternity test and my results finally came back today. Now its Strange because my son looks like my ex fiance. And Many Friends and family members believe that my ex is his father. Well I went with Identigene because it was affordable. Instead of having my ex tested, i had the other guy tested. The test came back that the other guy was not excluded from being the father. I called my sister and She told me to get a second opinion….
Also i was a bit confused by this part of the test. It said: The combined parentage index is 70,217,000 (corresponding to a probability of paternity of 99.9%, assuming prior probability = 0.5)
and indicates that these genetic data are 70,217,000 times more likely if _____is the Biological father of ________than if an untested, unrelated white man is the biological father. The Genetic analysis excludes at least 99.99% of white men from paternity.
Anyone tried this company at all? Anyone trust this company? I was thinking of sending in another kit with different names on it instead to see how accurate it really is. the kit was only 30$ and the lab fee’s were only 119$

The test results indicate that he is considered to be the biological father. I work for Identigene. The assumption of probability of 0.5 indicates that when we receive the DNA for testing, we assume the alleged father has 50/50% chance of being the biological father, either yes or no. The Combined Parentage Index (CPI) is based of calculations of the matching Loci (each marker tested that match is given a number based on how common it is in the population and calculated to give the CPI). In order to be considered the biological father that number has to be above 100. Your PCI is very high, which is a strong indication of paternity.
