I just got one done and it says my 2mth old daughter is not mine. I’m not the biological father! Can mistakes be made?

I work with paternity testing for 7 years now (not in Identigene) and I can assure you: mistakes with a DNA test only can happen due human mistakes (so not the test it self). That´s why the labs usualy have lots of procedures to avoid this. There is two important steps on a paternity test: the sample collection and the lab processing. About the lab (identigene), it is one of the largest and sofisticated labs performing paternity tests in the world. I personaly know some people from there. So I really doubt they can let happend such kind of mistake. They are AABB certificated, wich is a very important quality certification.
The other step is the sample collection, which is done by you self. If you swab the right persons, and didn´t contaminated with anyone elses DNA (like touching the swab), the collection was right.
VERY IMPORTANT: did you child was fed with breast milk within one hour prior the sample collection?
The milk in the childs mouth can contaminate the sample with the mothers DNA, which will lead to a wrong result.
If you follow all the collection procedure in the instructions, your test is probably right (I´m sorry).
Please feel free to ask anything else.

Ok I purchased a paternity test and my results finally came back today. Now its Strange because my son looks like my ex fiance. And Many Friends and family members believe that my ex is his father. Well I went with Identigene because it was affordable. Instead of having my ex tested, i had the other guy tested. The test came back that the other guy was not excluded from being the father. I called my sister and She told me to get a second opinion….
Also i was a bit confused by this part of the test. It said: The combined parentage index is 70,217,000 (corresponding to a probability of paternity of 99.9%, assuming prior probability = 0.5)
and indicates that these genetic data are 70,217,000 times more likely if _____is the Biological father of ________than if an untested, unrelated white man is the biological father. The Genetic analysis excludes at least 99.99% of white men from paternity.
Anyone tried this company at all? Anyone trust this company? I was thinking of sending in another kit with different names on it instead to see how accurate it really is. the kit was only 30$ and the lab fee’s were only 119$

The test results indicate that he is considered to be the biological father. I work for Identigene. The assumption of probability of 0.5 indicates that when we receive the DNA for testing, we assume the alleged father has 50/50% chance of being the biological father, either yes or no. The Combined Parentage Index (CPI) is based of calculations of the matching Loci (each marker tested that match is given a number based on how common it is in the population and calculated to give the CPI). In order to be considered the biological father that number has to be above 100. Your PCI is very high, which is a strong indication of paternity.

Due to advances in chemical analysis and a greater understanding of DNA and genetics, the once rare and expensive DNA screening of genetic material to determine relationships is now commonplace and available at very affordable prices. Even the samples required for screening have been simplified, and an oral swab is now sufficient where previously a blood test would have been necessary. For a DNA test such as a paternity testing paternity test to be carried out, genetic material has to be collected for each person participating, and a free DNA kit is provided by the supplier when you order the test.
The purpose of the kit is to provide all this needed to collect and return the sample, and although the contents will vary in detail between suppliers and laboratories, they will be intrinsically the same with respect to the necessary materials. These will include the swabs needed to collect the oral samples and a means of storing and returning these samples to the analyzing laboratory. A submission form will also be necessary, where the details of the subjects are provided, and labels or pre-addressed envelopes also provided. A very important component of the free kit is the instructions on how to use it.
Instructions are very important to some people, and even though sample collection with a swab is not difficult, it is important that they are clear. People are worried in case they affect the results by making some mistake when collecting the samples, and while that is unlikely, a video showing the entire procedure would be useful. Nevertheless, it is simply a matter of taking a swab, rubbing it against the inside of your cheek and placing it in the container provided. It is that simple.
Another important issue with some is the question of privacy. It is important to them that others don’t find out what they are doing, particularly if it does not concern others. If that is you, then contact your supplier and request that the free DNA kit is provided in an unmarked package – nothing on it but your name and address. That will give you the privacy, and you can get on with the test.
